PROSPECTS FOR ADDINGTON

Minor Events at N.Z. Cup Meeting

(By "The Toff.")

Though the acceptances are not available at time of writing, good iields are certain to line out for the first day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's spring function.

FOR the first event, Nelson McKinney will be well fancied and if any of his opponents beat him the probability is that Herbilwyn or Katute will be the ones to do it. Final McKinney will be well backed m the St. Albans Handicap, m which Pan Van should go a fast mile. Perhaps Amaris would go best of the remainder. In the Empire Handicap, Har- | vest Child and Epigram will go best of the front-markers, while Genuine certainly looks the pick of those farther back m the handicap. It is up to Daytime to win a race and the Riccarton Handicap points to being his event. He is off the limit and unless King Pointer beats him he should salute his honor. Great Actress has been working particularly well and she looks like being the hardest King Pointer and Daytime have to beat. For the Dominion Handicap, the best trotters m the country will assemble. The prize is £1000 and the distance is two miles. Elzear 'has been trotting m resolute fashion, but her stable-mate, Young Blake, may hold too many guns for her.

He has been trotting exceptionally well and what beats him should collect the trophy. Moneyspider and Trampfast are great horses, but they will find it difficult to overhaul Young Blake. Avenger and Marshal Neil will have plenty of friends for the Victoria Handicap and Trimmer must be reckoned as a possibility. Silk Thread will have plenty of support. It looks like Marshal Neil, Avenger and Silk Thread being m the picture. $. Regarding the Hoaley Handicap, Brentloc and Away should race well, but they may not be good enough to beat St. Maura, Harold Thorpe and Bell Harold. Queen's Own has had an interrupted preparation, due to one of her stablemates lashing out and kicking her on the knee. She may fulfil her cup engagement. I
