CREAM OF SPRINTERS

Stewards' Should See Titanic Battle For Honors

I There have been got together sprinters m the Stewards', but Sal best on record. THE twenty acceptors comprise the cream of the speed merchants of the Dominion and when it is noted that only five are weighted under eight stone some idea of the calibre can be gauged. The quality horse is there — the rag-tag division is conspicuous by its, absence. i Fully fifteen of the acceptors appear to have winning chances and to get the right one on the day will be some- ' thing of a feat. Reremoana, notwithstanding that he has been working exceptionally well, may be put out of court by the pace over the first half-mile. It is reasonable to expect him being I run off his legs. The same may apply to Civility, which, with Joy King m will be ridden by Alan McCormack. The mare has not had any of the luck at Riccarton and she will need every bit she . can get on Saturday. Shirley has plenty of pace, but though she is coming on, it may be m order to expect her winning turn to arrive later. Joy King has stood his ground and he will be one to worry about. He just died the last bit at Trentham and may do so again on Saturday. Endeavoring to win his third m succession, Comic Song will be much *■ ln the market. He won at Gore and on that victory he is given a great show of completing the hat-trick. It will be a record if he does. Benzora was not thought to be at his best at Trentham, yet he won — and won well. He is a horse that is improving tell the time and that is the right sort to be with. In passing, it may be mentioned that he is recognized by his party as being a bad track horse. Booster ig a good horse and with a good horseman would be one of the fancies. If his trainer takes the mount he will slump m the betting. Last season Overhaul was a great

some very fine class fields of turday's race promises to be the betting proposition down south and he accounted for some good class fields. Notwithstanding this form, he may not be just up to the class. Two years back Money Order should have won this race. Since then he has done little racing, but m what he has competed he has shown that he retains all his old speed. He is going to set a cracker pace and that may be against him when the last furlong Is entered on. Kiosk was more than a little unlucky at Ellerslie and he is now at his best. He has the pace and — further — the courage, two essentials necessary to win down the straight six. With George New winning on every hand, Crown Area will be backed by many to keep up the run of successes. Quite a time back his party reckoned him a Stewards' horse— next Saturday will decide the issue. Gascony would be all the better for his race at Trentham, but all the same he will need to be a great deal better to have the judge bothered. Another of his age is Eulalie and coming from the Mason stable it will be no surprise to find her favorite. She has a terrific burst of pace J and judiciously handled she will be j the hardest to beat. j Win or lose, she is going to give them a headache chasing her. Receipt goes fast, but the course should be her downfall, while Paperchase has yet to get back to her form of N.ew Year last. On'her day, Lady Cavendish can hold her own m any company, but Saturday may not be the right day. Countersign once waa speedy, but she should not give the worry, while the three on the minimum will be the outsiders on the machine. There is room for a surprise, but the last three on the list should not effect it. All things considered, the race should provoke most spirited wagering, with practically every runner at a good figure. Public support may be found for EULALIE, BENZORA and KIOSK.
