In Myers' Park

IF John McKenzie cannot behave better under the influence of drink than he did the other evening m Myers' Park, Auckland, then he is well advised to leave the flowing bowl to other lips. # "There is nothing against him; it is merely the result of drink," said Senior-Sergeant McCarthy at the Auckland Police Court when McKenzie appeared on a charge of molesting a woman m the park about eight o'clock m the evening. The woman was not called as a witness and Magistrate Hunt was told all he wished, to know about the affair by a police constable, whose assistance the woman had called for as she rushed out from beneath some trees m the park. She informed the police officer that McKenzie had been following her and had tried to grab her basket. "Accused was drunk," said the P.C., "and told me that if 1 was a man at all I should help the lady with her basket." A fine of £1 or three days settled that little outing of John McKenzie's.
