The Modern Boy
In view of the long, drawn-out controversy upon " The Modern Girl", "N.Z. Truth's" appren-
tice-poet has asked himself a question — "How does the modern boy compare with his brother of centuries past ?" The Modern Boy — the flappers' joy; More common known as "Sheik-Ling"; I'm just the lad — Sir Galahad — The twenty-seven weakling! No armor I — just glaring tie, With coat cut short and dapper; My socks now act, where breastplates lack — To captivate the flapper. Nor do I need — a lance and steed, To win a lady's fancy; My Oxford bags — and scented fags, Just please the modern Nancy. The giden tale, of chain and mail — Worn by a gallant haughty: Now cuts no iee — these days of viee — But hush. That sounds TOO naughty. No shield or mace, need I to face — A rival m my wooing: I wheeze the bride — "His bags ain't wide!" And calmly — keep on chewing. If ancient guys, thought they were wise, With 'cuffs and frills so dandy: I'll back my bows — and buttoned rows, To knock the boneheads bandy. With cocktails, hocks — and choc'late box, I spend more than they use-ter: 1 1 spare no cash — I'm very flash — [The modern, gay, young rooster.
