ROBSON FELL
Footballer's Trip To Sydney (From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) William John Robson, well known m football circles m Wanganui, left his wife and three young children arid skipped across to Sydney with another woman m June last. UERB Robson found employment for *■ a few months to the tune of £ 5 per week, but the whole fiver went m supplying the wants of the pair, so there was nothing left for the wife and bairns left behind m the River City. As a matter of fact, Robson did not even bother to inquire whether they were alive or dead. Later he tired of Sydney life, returned to New Zealand and settled down m sunny Nelson. " As soon as Robson's location was ascertained, it did not take long to procure a warrant and have him Drought to Wanganui to face Magistrate Barton. Robson told the magistrate that ha was willing to pay maintenance. "Willing!" replied, the S.M. "You will have to be more than willing, for you will be made to pay! You deserted your family and lived with this other woman and never even inquired about your children." Robson was told that he would be convicted and ordered to come up* for sentence within two years if called upon. He would have to report regularly to the probation officer and if he failed to keep, up maintenance payments to his family he need have no doubt as to what, would happen. In addition, he was ordered to furnish a regular return of his earnings and disbursements to the probation officer. While Robson was m gaol over the week-end, the case having been adjourned, the other woman sent him a telegram to the effect that she would meet him on the Saturday afternoon. Instead of Robson being at the station to greet her, however, one of the men m blue was on the platform and whispered m her ear where William was located. One of the .terms of his probation is that he must not see the woman again.
