Cameron Gaoled
JUDGE STRINGER did not mince ** matters m dealing with lan Cameron, the bigamist, whose story recently appeared m "N.Z. Truth." "He is a blackguard! A thorough blackguard!" declared his honor. Sentence on Cameron had been deferred to enable Lawyer Dickson to obtain evidence regarding the prisoner's legal wife, the allegation being that she was not of reputable character. "I have not seen the police report concerning this woman," stated counsel. "You may take it, Mr. Dickson, that she is not of a particularly good character," retorted Judge Stringer. Lawyer Dickson asked for the imposition of a light sentence, stating that Cameron had already been m gaol five weeks and desired to marry the third woman, who had two young children. Judge Stringer expressed doubt as to whether Cameron could obtain a divorce, which, Lawyer Dickson had intimated, he contemplated. Remarking that Cameron must have it impressed upon him that he could not be allowed to do the things he had been guilty of, his honor sentenced him to six months' imprisonment.
