HAT TRICK

Four Wickets In Succession (From "N.Z. Truth's" Taranaki Rep.). Cricket is now m full swing m Taranaki, and the North Taranaki competitions opened on Saturday. WHAT a shock Old Boys got when High School dismissed them for the small total of 17! Young Allen was the destroying element, taking 7 wickets for 12 runs, including the hat trick, by landing four wickets with sucessive balls. C. G. Clarke, who was not practising the previous ,week, did not play for New Plymouth on Saturday. They had the services of McWhirter, an ex.-South Canterbury fast bowler, who captured four wickets for 26 runs. Fred Atkins, the Taranaki half, has the honor of notching the first century of the season, piling up 101 for Rivals against Star m the Hawera 'Wednesday competition. The batsmen got busy m the South Taranaki competition. Stan Lay hit up a cheerful 88 not out, and was mainly responsible for Old Boy 6 defeating Eltham. Reg. Penny's 78, just one third of Okalawa's 234, helped materially to defeat Kaponga's 98. Hawera High School and Manaia declared they had hard luck m drawing with Patea and Excelsior, who were m a very parlous position when stumps were drawn.
