JOTTINGS FROM THE SOUTH
Otago and Southland Horses In Form (Frpm "N. Z. Truth's" South Island Correspondent).
THE two -year -old Night March struck *■ trouble m both his races at Wingatui. He is a smart youngster, but he is not to be hurried for future racing. He is growing fast. * * * Tholomon acted well at Dunedin and is expected, to win races over the battens at southern fixtures. * * * Captain Sarto has failed to reach the form it was predicted he would. In future he will race m the interests of "Put" Hogan. W. Kilkelly, it is believed, has made a present of him to the Timaru trainer. * # • Sparkling Eyes, a sister to Listening Post, failed badly last season. She_ is now a five-year-old and is working much better than she used to do. Don't be a bit surprised if she wins a race m the near future, * * * The followers of Set Sail have not depreciated her Cup prospects because of her failure at Dunedin. They have decided to forget her performance at Wingatui. .* * * Taboo demonstrated what a good horse he is by winning a double at Wingatui. He is m at the Southland fixtures and* will continue to get the money. * * * Everybody m a position to judge has a good word for Royal Saxon and state that he is certain to win races. * * # Dismantle has been added to the list of future winners. She is a full-sister to Overhaul. * * # Some Rose, winner of the McLean Stakes last year, slipped a muscle while competing at the recent Dunedin meeting and is m hospital for repairs. * * * Listening Post has been standing up to his work. His prospects are not bright.
The ancient jumper, Penury Rose, made his reappearance at Dunedin. He might have a chance of beating the moderates m hurdle contests at the southern gatherings. # * # The English mare, Celerity 11., is a bit short of work, due to the accident she had a few weeks ago.. With a race or two she will be a safe conveyance down the line. ♦ # # The New Zealand Cup candidate, Equerry, is a whole lot better for the races he had at Dunedin and will proceed to carve the duck at gatherings close at hand.
