NEVER WORRIED JUDGE

New Zealanders Fail To Win In Sydney

(By Cable.— From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.) Quite a few New Zealand horses figured among the Canterbury Park fields on Saturday last.

WITH the spring carnival over, a few of the Dominion trainers, whose representatives failed to pluck any of the plums, are delaying 1 their departure m hope of picking: up a small race on the suburban tracks. But they will need to improve on anything shown at Canterbury Park, where half a dozen or so New Zealand horses failed to wink a winning eye at the judge. The hurdler Asleep* which has been here for three months, and looks tired enough to lie down on his jobs, had a crack at the jumpers m a mile fiat race. He was not fancied, and ran accordingly. All eyes were on Jazz Baby when he came out m the first division of the High Weight, six furlong's. By his robust appearance it was palpable he had done little work, and, though McCarten was aboard, punters side-stepped him. Jazz Baby, whose New Zealand record shows him to be a smart sprinter, failed to get within cooee of the leaders early, but he was finishing fast m fifth place.

He should have no difficulty m earning: his oats on this side. First Acre added another defeat to his already lengthy list, and does not appear to possess any chance of picking up a race. Among an ordinary field of sprinters he finished seventh. In the same race, Royal Blood, which had been saved up for nearly two months, carried the confidence and the coin of Owner Scholium. He could never outpace Greenie, a filly by Greenstead, and had to be content with third place. As the newly-appointed A.J.C. chairman of stewards, Mr. Jack McMahon, was not m Sydney on Saturday last, his place was taken for the day by Assistant-Stipe Timperley. McMahon will take up his duties on Saturday at Moorefield. Jack Cameron has won out after a gruelling; fight with pneumonia, and this popular trainer was convalescing last week. He will not be able to attend at Flemington on Derby Day to see Merry Mint run m the Victoria Blue Riband.
