Political Tonic For Harry Holland
""THERE were two things about the Raglan by-election which X left Harry Holland a very pleased man. One goes without saying, but the other concerns the Labor leader personally. Though a very sick man — and very often suffering a great deal of pain, even when addressing the electors from the depths of a comfortable chair — Holland received a remarkably attentive hearing wherever he went. What undoubtedly did him more good than the best tonic, though, were the hearty handclasps of friend and foe alike after each meeting. The expressions of sympathy he received from Reform supporters concerning his disabled leg furnished ample proof of the popularity of this unassuming and kindly politician. Incidentally, it also proves that the average elector is a good sportsman.
