Don't Fill Over-heated Engine With Cold Water

Adding water to the cooling system while the engine is hot calls for caution. If the supply in the radiator has been too far diminished it will pay to wait until the engine cools. When a great deal of water is poured into the hot motor, there is a definite danger that it will crack the cylinder block or water jacket. The best way to avert the possibility of such damage is to keep the cooling system tight. It is especially important to do this when touring, for distance driving always results in a tendency for the engine to heat.
