NOTES FROM THE NORTH
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland
Rep.)
JTLORALINE is getting more solid with increasing years. He took the Waitemata Trot rather easily in over ssecs. better than his handicap. Caterpillar can make mistakes like the rest. Berkett's gelding P showed that when he cracked up last Saturday. * * # Raima is worth following. He was showing the right paces when too late in the Waitemata Trot, but will be home first for sure in more races than one. * # # Bluewood's second last week-end shows that the old fellow has more than a kick left. =£ & Appeal is still worthy of his name. He was asked to do something better than formerly to win last week-end, and beat Floraline. * # # Beatty, an aged Hal Zolock mare, will win races for Sid. August. There was something in her third to Amaris and Goldman. * # # Amaris will get further along in his winning account. After capturing the Improvers he failed when put back 2secs. later in the day, but he will beat the same class any day. * * » Luvan showed great speed on opening day, but could not be expected to make two errors on the journey and then win. * # & Jack Shaw was game enough to give it a go to get up on the inner with Jewel Pointer in the Spring Handicap, but it was not surprising to note an old head like Free Holmes prevent him from doing so. * * * Goldman had the weather conditions with him for the Improvers, but met a tough 'un when he struck Amaris. * * * Tom Thumb may have preferred it without the rain last week-end. * * # It is only a matter of time for the present minority of the A.T.C. committee to gain their way regarding the opening of the course proper for a final try-out. * * * The article in "N.Z. Truth" some few weeks ago regarding the coming of the electric tote for Alexandra Park turns out to be correct. One of the committee pleaded guilty to the fact to "Truth" last week. As little time as possible will be lost with the installation. Bravo! * # # A. G. Mabee is going to turn out a really popular secretary if he travels on his present lines. * # * For the first time in his career, Waikaha was outside the money last Saturday. But he was up fourth from 96yds. behind, and will be better with every race. It is a pleasure to note him in action. * * * Jewel Pointer is not a crackajack, but he is useful and there is still money in him. He is honest, if nothing else. * * * Ahuriri was not largely supported on Saturday, because it was realized a race or two may be wanted. He shaped like it, too. * * # Imprint was up fifth at the close last week-end. He has more than a rough show in the big N.Z. Cup. * * # It is just possible some horses go out of second legs in trotting doubles because it suits their connections. At least that was general talk at Alexandra Park last Saturday. * * * One thing about Jack Shaw is that he knows how to turn horses out respectably. Jewel Pointer and Amaris particularly are a credit to him. * # # Festive Morn will come again for sure.
