Trouble Hard To Locate

One of the simplest and most common causes of motor ills is dirt m the petrol. Mysterious effects follow m the wake of dirty petrol, and dirt persists m accumulating, despite bowsers and other forms of filtering.

ANE of the most common troubles caused by dirt is m respect of the fuel strainer m the pipe line. If this is choked through a foreign substance m the tank it will not allow sufficient petrol to reach the carburettor at high speeds or hard climbing. A cessation of regular firing is the usual sympton denoting a fault of this kind.

It is apt, too, often to take place at an awkward moment such as when the engine is suddenly accelerated m order to rush a hill on a lower gear.

A particle or two of dirt or some such substance at the base of a jet will often be the cause of a peculiar hesitation on the part of the engine when the throttle is opened.

Sometimes the obstruction Is m the starting or compensating jet m which case the engine will generally be affected at slow speeds and may very likely stop. The task of restarting the engine after this has happened will be found difficult.

Faults of this kind are often difficult to locate, taking several hours before the trouble is found and remedied. When the carburettor is dismounted for the purpose of inspecting, the petrol drains off and sometimes the grit will run back into the body of the carburettor and so elude detection.

It may recede behind a slight projection of any kind, such as the point just round the corner where the restricted orifice of the jot opens out into the larger diameter of the main bore.

This may cause the fault to remain undiscovered, and much time and unnecessary labor can be saved by the removal of the offending particles, and the thorough cleaning of the carburettor before it is refitted.

TT would take a long: search to find anything look worse than the average man m the average Oxford bags.
