SUCCESS
Canterbury Night Meeting. (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Rep.) The Canterbury centre's evening meeting m honor of "Fatty" Lamb last week was m every way a huge success. ' TT was a well-run affair — m fact, the •*• events got a bit ahead of time instead of , getting behind. Chief interest of course centred m the cycling races m which Lamb com•iiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiDiiiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiDiiiiiiiiiiuiiiiiiimi I .'
peted, and he was successful m both the half-mile and two miles invitation scratch events. ' The latter was a fine race, m which Lamb beat'Grose by a wheel, whereas m the half-mile he got a better position than the New Zealand champion and beat him by a length. ' M. Leadbetter, New Zealand . sprint champion, was also a source of much interest, as he was making his^first appearance since the big championship meeting.. He found the handicaps a bit too much for him. His best effort was m winning his heat of the 120 yds from scratch m 12 2/5 sees. He. ran second m his heat of the 75yds m 7 4/5 sees, and third m the final m 8 sees. . The quarter and half-mile flat races were enjoyable items on the programme from the crowd's poiht of view,' and the excellent. finishes were a tribute to the handicapping of Mr. E. H. Cross, the centre's handicapper. , There was a good field . m the ladies' 100 yds handicap/which was won by Miss M. Boyd, Canterbury champion, from scratch m 12 2/5. Miss Maxwell, who was also on the scratch mark, ran secorid to Miss Boyd, being a foot or so to the bad. -
