THE MINOR EVENTS
Promising Trotters at Wellington (By "Th e\ Toff.*') With good nominations secured, the Wellington Trotting' Club should enjoy satisfactory acceptances for the first day of its autumn meeting. v
ACCORDING to track gossip there may be a big number of withdrawals from the Bollard Handicap. For the sake of the club' I hope there is not. At time of writing the, acceptances t were not available. The day's card opens with the usual contest for maiden performers. Among them are several unknown to the race track. As they generally run green it is well to select a prospective winner from those that have heard the band play. Among them are Auditress, Hori Dillon and Panto. KAITOKE HANDICAP , Audo Spray will have a certain following if he starts ln the Kaitoke Handicap ; so} will Tramp'crisp. ; The American is a nice trotter, but is still green. If Hardy Grattan ls • well, he and Sarsaparilla will nearly overhaul their opponents.
They look the most likely to be m the prize. Amazon and Lochree ought to be at home m a mile and a-half event. This is the distance of the Beach Handicap contest. First Water, Doris Dillon and Meb are all promising sorts. Of the party | Meb is the king pin. CHARLES DIXIE Can Escapade overhaul her opponents in.'the . Wilford Handicap? She is a great trotter, but it is just doubtful if she can concede 60yds to Rose Bingen. Of the. rest of the field Charles Dixie appeals most. Daytime will have plenty of friends m the Belmont Handicap, so will Logan Lily and Van Rich. Of the two Daytime will be entrusted with most money. The Dash Handicap should suit Some Wilkes, High Jinks and ' Amaris. - ] In the Shorts Handicap an interesting tussle among Lochree, Amazon and Some Jazz should be seen. ______________ • i ■ .
