HACKENSCHMIDT AND SCOTTISH PHYSIQUE.

H'ackenschmidt, the Russian lion, who is fulfilling several Scottish engagements/ at ths present time, has t been giving his views on Scottish physique. Tha great wrestler apparently does nipt go about with his eyes shut, but seems to be a close observer of all that is taking place around him and of the men and women and children ho meets m his tours v He apparently has a whole-hearted. contempt for the youth of Scotland. This is what . he says of them :— "I have 'been all over the world, and have never seen anything like what I have seen in' Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee." Going on to speak of the weedy looking young men he encountered m the streets sucking at cigarettes, he remarks :— "Your fathers, especially those of the lower classes, should put their foot down and stop all the smoking, drinking, and so on that goes on among the children, and if the men are not plucky enough, the women should look after it. The fact is : , you Scots drink" far more than is good for you, and the result is that you are losing your physique as a nation."
