TARTAN'S TROUBLE.
All lovers of a good horse will regret to, learn. tha t;,the Australian. Cup. favorite, Tar tan, bas 'gone amiss, and it is feared" that be will not be able, to .fill his autumn engagements. It is also extremely .bad luck for his owner, as" the old son of Locbiel was m the condition, .of his life, and his defeat m the Australian Cup and weight-for-age races seemed hardly probable. The accounts to hand bf Tartan's misfortune are very meagre, and it is possible that: his injury is not. as.bad as reported, . but as he only took walking exercise yesterday morning his trainer .is evidently afraid to. risk; the consequences of '■ a severe gallop. Tartan has been a radr-hot pot for the, Australian , Cup ever since the weights appeared, and his retirement would be a severe loss to backers, both straight out and m doubles. —Sydney "Sportsman.."- .. .
