The sort of immigrant New Zealand is receiving was shown at the Auckland S.Ms. Court the other day when • a poor, undersized, rat of a .fellow named Keen was vagged. The police explained that Keen, who had only been m the colony eight weeks, had spent six of them m hospital. He was found homeless and evidently m a state of starvation, and was sitting on a doorstep and taken into custody. Dr. Purdy had been called to examine the unfortunate young man, and his advice was' that he be kept under medical observation for a week to determine whether or not he was suffering from consumption, his v , general appearance showing every indication of that disease. If sucli were found to be the case, he could probably be despatched to a sanatorium, while m the meantime he; would receive every care and attention. The poor devil was : remanded to see What could he done for him.
