PUBLIC SERVANTS SAT ON.
. «, . Last session Parliament almost lashed itself into a fury over leave of absence being granted to Inspector-General of Schools Hogben, and wanted to know the why and wherefore of the dash' being made by public servants for the Old Dart. Now, something, has happened. Cabinet has considered the matter, and the fiat hath gone forth m the shape of instructions to. heads of Departments that leave of absence to- 1 servants who propose' :to leave the Dominion will not be granted, and if any leave is to be granted, they must ruralise m the Dominion. This is a wise move on the Cabinet's part, arid "Truth" Wishes to rejoice because it has got sick and tired of reading- that Mr So and So was about to leave for Yurrup on an extended holiday, and it further wondered how the , Public Servant could do it on his wages; Public servants, or some of thenv, do love personal and fulsome pars about themselves m the daily press, and it must sound nice to have it printed of one that he was at Naples this day and at Timbuctu the next, and all the while jthe bleeding country was paying fot -it. Now, this holiday jaunting of the peoples ac ants is going to be checked, and they will have their leave of absence curtailed and they won't come back and be interviewed, and give a lot of hot air about things they imperfectly understood. Furthermore, "Truth" is sick and tired of these puffer-up public servants, and it doesn't care if it insults them by being jubilant at their discomfiture. What Cabinet might do is to come down on those public servants who are being sent away globe-trotting m the interests of the Dominion. They never learn anything of any value, and if they do N.Z. never gets the benefit of it, and the public servant lgis a glorious time of it and all at the public exuehse. Just by way of curiosity, is Mr T. E. Donne fitting up for another jaunt to represent New Zealand at some forthcoming European exhibition, and does the Cabinet injunction apply to Donne, or does it not- ? We are nil sick and thoroughly tired of the globe-trotting, public servant and bis long leave of absence, and the Government m cutting down this leave is wise, and it rnvnx nn 'indication 'hoi 1-li-p public servant isn't troinrr tn be don: any lonp.fi". He is \o be put m his' nroper place, and bad cess to him all Mm same.
