One of Holbrook's queerest freaks was his MANIA FOE STEALING railroad pass books and riding males under an assumed name. He confesses that he often had no particular desire to travel over , the road on ■which the pass was good, and he says, nine times out of ten he paid his fare on the return trip, but he was seized ever so often to see if he could beat the railroad and travel under another man's name. It was m the gratifying of this whim that he was finally captured by Detective Daguc. Holbrook was trying to ride on a mileage book under the name of George Smith. Dasue happened to know Smith, and it was all up for the doctor when he passed m his "borrowed" book. His home at Gutherievillc, about ten miles out of Coatesville, is a splendid establishment. A staff of well-trained servants attend to everything ; the stables are models ; the house itself is a splendid structure, and inside— Well, it is the interior m which the captor of "Raffles" and all who have been "touched" by him are particularly interested.
