INSPECTOR OF PRISONS.
Colonel Hume Going.
It looks very N much as if there is going to be a big change m the Prisons Department, and not before it is time either. Just at. present the talk m town is that Inspector of Prisons Hume is to be relieved of his various responsibilities. Just now he is up at Rotorua, whether on Departmental business or just recuperating, isn't quite clear, though it might be the latter. Anyhow, he is going. Whether his resignation is voluntary or whether he got a hint to throw m his marble on the score of old age, is also, as the daily press would say, shrouded m mystery- His successor has not yet been named. This much, however, is certain, and that is that the next Inspector of Prisons Will be a younger man. Fossildom is running the Dominion's Civil Service to every Department, and the Government, m appointing a younger and more up-to-date individual to such a position, is adopting a very wise policy, a policy which should be forever adhered to.
