"Subscriber," Christchurch — The trial of James Shore for the murder of Mr and Mrs Jones, of Petone, was commenced on March 15, 1897, and the proceedings lasted a week. Mr Wilford defended Shore, who was acquitted. The principal witness against Shore Was a Frehchman named Stephen Bosher, who was arrested upon Shore's liberation and charged with the murder. Mr Wilford defended Bosher also, an extraordinary circumstance, which attracted even the attention of the Australian press, but the foreigner was found guilty and suffered the extreme penalty at the hands of the hangman.
