Thc. postal- authorities have .been advised of the departure of the Victoria from Sydney for Auckland on the 24th inst., with 208 bags English and Australian mails for Wellington. They should arrive by Monday's Manawatu express.
The impudence of some policemen m -this village of ours seems to know no bounds, and it might be just as well if the Sergeants , looked after their men a little better* There was a sort of sing-song m an Ingestrestreet bouse t'other evening, when some Jout m blue 1 .pokfcd his snout into the. bouse and accused the inmates of creating a disturbance. The people, naturally surprised, are very reputable citizens, and promptly resented the officious "snout's" damnable interference, and reported the matter, to -be told, of course, that the matter would be enquired into. Nothing more wa.s heard of the matter, as per usual. The allegation is made, moreover, that the policeman was under the influence of drink, and that fact, taken m conjunction with his unwarrantable entry into a private dwelling-house, should cause litis instant dismissal from thc "foorce." "Critic" hopes that more will he beard cf the matter by the offending otfir-er. An example ough,t to be made of him.
