THE CHRISTCDHURCH COAL STAGE.
TO THE EDITOR.
. Sir,— Please give publicity to the following- m your valuable journal:— The equanimity of the Goal" Stage SLo'co Department at Christcburch has received rather a shock a few days ago, owing to ' the fact of the head coalman (commonly/ known as Taffie) discharging two casual coalmen,, one v of whom had over two years' service,, simply because they would not discharge timber from wagg&hs belonging to Hie Traffic Department, whifch work was outside his control ; but m order to show his officiousness and authority heseems anxious to control part of the traffic as well as the black diamonds. I don't think the higher officials are cognizant of the gentleman's 'behaviour, otherwise they would keep him within bounds', as he seems 1 * anxious to run the whoie show. As one of the victims m this case, I trust the responsible officer will investigate this matter, and reinstate us men, . as I contend we have not committed any breach of the rules/ and also administer such reproof •to this busy body that he will not be so ready to show Ms authority m -the future. I could say a great deal , more on this subject, but as 'the responsible officer will be approached on the matter we will give him every opportunity to redress the wrong done us ; of course, a little publicity m matters of this kind does a lot of good, as , it tends to restraia tihe over-zeal of very fast individuals. I am, etc., BLACK DIAMOND. Christchurch, March 25, 1907..
