WIFE'S HUGE CLAIM.
&OOGH GN HUBBY SHEARD/
• The. shearing of Shea,rd by i#e regulation official regulation 'shears was performed at Christchurch on v an af barno on recently. James A. fcibfiard had the bad luck to get hitched* up many T -ears ago, and .he is ,ripw cursing that particular day with great violence. , There were iour> children born of the' union, but aKer that the couple didn't hit it, and parted. Whether they hit eacli. other isn't known. Hpwever, m due.;tiih'e the woman obtained a "separation from Jim and substantial niaintenance for herself and family. ''But Sheaird didn't hang on to . his^tfillet of £3 10s a week as fdreijrfCn at Bowron's, and skedaddkdr^about the world. . Lately he has rjfixos back to Rowron's, but on a £3 . -j^er vveek.^asis, and no holidays paid fpr. The plump mawdn who sighs herself as- his- wife was- on his track; - he nadn't kept -up" payments under the order, and there was a large carpv, of arrears, but> he started .nayine what he could, 15s per week, which was much less than the Court ordered. However, Mrs Sheard was thankful to get it, and she received- it m a .quiet spirit, never speaking to the man she had sworn to love,; honor and obey. In the meantime • she started a baby . farm, and earned a good income, so it is said, by ■•running- a licensed ' home. Also, three- of the family, all sons, are now earning wages, whereas when the order was made they were at school. , There was some little trouble about seven weeks ago over something or another, and Sheard paid no more fifteen bobs. So the fat lady became angry and sued him for breach of order, claiming the ridiculous saw. of £214 6s Bd. How the six and eight slipped m isn't vouchsafed, but it looks like THE PHOTOGRAPH OF A LAWYER'S MISTAKE. However, as 15s had. been paid for some time privately, and not through the Court,, the books of the latter wouldn't show it, and m reality not much more than a hundred quid was owing. But that was far too much to expect Sheard to pay and a compromise was expected to be made between Lawyers Donnelly (complainant) and Dougall (defendant) when an adjpurnment was taken. Donnelly suggested £20, but the other side .only offered half, so there was a deadlock and the Cow-t was asked to fix the matter up. Bishop, SM., said'he thought £20 a fair compromise and ordered Sheard to pay £10 of it within n week, and the balance of £10 at the" rate of 10s per week. The original order was lessened, and m future Sheard will have to pay 15s- per week towards the support of wife and bairns.
