OPERA HOUSE.

To-Night's Dramatic Event.

MacMahon's New Company.

The inauguration of the forthcoming season by Messrs Macmahon's new and powerful dramatic organisation to-night at the Opera House is full of promise. The company is an exceptionally large and capable one, numbering twenty-eight principal artistes, aud a full scenic and mechanical staff is included m the organisation recently brought together m Sydney and Melbourne for the present New Zealand tour, which so far has been of a triumphantly successful character. A season of twenty-five consecutive nights was played at His Majesty's Theatre, Auckland, to greaii business, this being followed up by a no less prosperous one at the Theatre Royal, Christchurch, whither tire company returns for a month after the conclusion of the three weeks' season m. Wellingtont which commences to-night. The pi-ays to be produced are all new to Wellington, and each bears the hall mark of the most recent London success. That selected for the open-in-n- is Clarence Bumettc's A'delphi nautical drama, m four acts, "Our Guardian Angel," which is spoken of on all sides as being one of the most powerfully attractive and absoribrttgly interesting ■ plays of the day. An unusually large and exacting cast of characters is involved m its representation, and having regard to its requirements m this direction the management have put together one of the largest and most comprehensive companies that has ever visited New Zealand. The sc&nerv and mechanical accessories, .which were prepared m Sydney, will be upon a scale of bountiful completeness, and the management are confident that the Wellington public will endorse the verdict of the other centres, and that tonisrht's attendance at the Opera House will be a "crusher." The box plan will be open during to-day at Holiday's.
