About the time that Ellis shot Collinson at To Awaite the local authorities at Marlinborough happened to adapt a new cemetery, says an exchange. Up to the time of the arrast of Ellis m Ilawke's Bay there have been thirteen burials (includmsr the body of Collinson) m the new cemetery at Martinboroiifih. Strange as it may seem, the thirteen persons met their death m a violent or unnatural manner. One or two Wairarapa newspapers blamed "the Ellis rurse" as be ins: the cause of these fatalities, and expressed the belief that there. would he no cessation until the murdered Collinson was avfneed. Since the capture and execution of Ellis, fatalities m this district, it is said, have ceased, and the "curse" has disappeared. Of course this is simply a true story of fact being j stranger than fiction..
