ANOTHER CALIBAN.
Christchurch Hotel-keeper This Time. On two occasions lately "Truth 1 * has mentioned instances of girls hay* ins been trapped into taking service at hotels where the proprietor has been absolutely no class, and who, though married, has sought to satisfy) his lustful desires by means 08 'threats. The latest story of this pain-, ful nature comes from Christchurch., ' The fellow is a bit of a plausiblq gentleman m his way, but makes a; speciality of buxom cooks and servants ' girls, whom he engages himself, his , wife having no say m the matteir.. He has jrot the reputation of paying good wages to these girls and this need not excite wonder when the ser* vices he wants them to perform are considered. Of course he meets his, match now and again, and then it costs him a trifle more than a stifS wage. This may present an aspect oil ■'; blackmail, but a fellow like that whoti>" lures girls to his house— unsuspecting; maidens, who are glad of the higtit screw— deserves to pay through the* hose for his dirty business. It is too, strong altogether, and a sound thrash-i me: and a term m quod wouldn't "net out of place. His actions towards the women are obscene when lie makes his first advances r and he is a swiuisV brute all through.
