the date when the Mexican letter had been received he had paid a money order for §75 to Mrs Bauer, which" had been sent by J. J. Brady from Veleradena, Mex. At once the whole four plot was revealed to the stricken man. His trusted friend had proved a traitor, and wife, child and savings had all been stolen from him. After the first daze was over, he began to take a somewhat philosophical, view of the matter. If his wife preferred another man to him, w e^ and good. He had no desire to chain an unwilling woman to him. But his child and his hard-earned savings were a different matter. He did not propose to 'have the one brought up under such surroundings, nor did he feel, like losing the money that had cost him so much hard work. So, first providing himself with a letter from the Chief of Police of Pittsburg, commending him to the good offices and assistance of the police of this country, he journeyed to Valeradena. ( Bauer found Brady here at the smelter, and when Brady recognised the man he had betrayed, he made a movement to draw a weapon. Bauer was too quick for him, however, and killed bim by firing three bullets into his head.
