OPERA HOUSE.
"Dorothy Vernon."
As was anticipated from th.c early bookk>~ Miss Tittel Brune's season opened to record business, and the same state of pack and jamb prevailed on Thursday night and last night. Apart from the popularity of the gifted youne; actress herself, the interest m Charles Major's charming historical story of the wayward and wilful Dorothy was sufficient to attract all' lovers of the romantic drama. Had the part been written for her Miss Brune . could not nave appeared to better advantage. The character of Dorothy— by turns a wlayful, mischievous miss, and a head-strong, passionate woman— is such a one as Miss Brune can play to perfection. It suits her better than "Sunday," and it. ■ offers a relief which may be compared to advantage with her faulty Juliet. She was excellently supported throughout. Miss 'Vaughan's Queen Elizabeth was a very fine pourtrayal, as also was Miss Ferguson's Mary Queen of Scots Mr Kingston, as the lover, Sir John Manneis, is seen at "his best, .although the part is a difficult one to sustain, and as old man Vernon. Mr Atholwood is excellent. The minor parts are well filled, although there is room for improvement m the Earl of Rutland and ; Lord Burle ierb
"Dorothy Vernon" will be repeated on Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesday McLelland's realistic drama. "Leah Kleschiia,"- will be staged.
