What is the cause of the brutality and blundering that is rampant m our police force ? There must be some fault m the system that allows those m charge of a station to refuse to telephone— when earnestly beseeched to do so, and thus allay alarm m his family— to the private address of a well-known business man who has the misfortune, for the first time m a long and useful life, to be locked up on a charge of bein# drunk. This occurred the other night and the neglect of the police to do as requested caused the citizen's sons journeys to the Hutt and other places, fearing that their father had met with an accident. Wellington police appear to exist only to harry wretched women and flout the taxpayers who have to find their salaries.
