THEATRE ROYAL, CHRISTCBURCH.
The latest thing m the -way of moving pictures (and there have ,be<m a lot of "latest" m that line lately) is the Gaumont Chrono'phone, a double-barrelled sort of aiTair that not only shows the living pictures upon the screen, but makes the figure talk as well. In fact it does more, it makes them sing and laugh and. play cornets aaid trombones and other noiseful weapons. To put the matter simply the Chronophone is a combination of cinematograph and pbon«irraph arranged by a mechanism- oi such delicate character that the eye and ear take m the two reproductions in ' perfect harmony. The management have provided a very varied programme, which includes some ofthe most popular songs and chbniye* from the great operas. Amongst others that deserve special. notice are the Swing Sone: from "Verohique." "Let me like a Soldier Pall," "The Laughing Song," and. several popular coster songs. The proprietors had a very successful, seaspn m the Wellington Town Hall, and anticipate that when they open m Christcburch on Monday night next they will hava the first of a week's packed houses.
