A POLICE SCANDAL.

On August 15, a man was fined for allowing his cows to stray at Island Bay and on the twentieth—Monday week— he paid the fine at the Court. Yet, on Monday last, a week later, a constable m uniform called upon him on the job where he is employed, prepared to either take him to quod m default or receive the sum of 14s fed. He did neither and got a tongue-thrashing instead. But he nearly got the man the sack through his, or his superior officer's, damned stupidity, the boss objecting strongly -to his men beina; hunted by the police, and that such 'booby bobby blunders are possi-ble is scandalous. In this case there can be no excuse as the bluebottle had called at the home first and been told by the man's wife that the fine had been paid.
