BRITISH AND GERMAN
INDUSTRIALISTS’CONGRESS NO COMBINE OR CARTEL MOOTED .DISCLAIMER ISSUED By Telegrauh.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian and N.2. Cable Association. LONDON, December 5. >. Expressions of oordiality marked the conclusion of a two days’ conference between the British and German Federations of Industry. The official report mentions that the organisations will further investigate the general European economic situation with a view to their next meeting. Discussions were held on the question of the possibility of increasing credit and insurance and supplying information as to the credit of potential customers. No further step will be taken, however, until after the forthcoming international meeting of representatives of European insurance companies. Both organisations expressed great satisfaction at the progress made, and the great future possibilities opened up for their co-operation. An important disclaimer has been issued hv the heads of both federations, in which they emphasise that the question of international cartels and combines was not discussed by the conference, nor is there reason for the suggestion that any combined action by British and German industry against any other country’s industry has been mentioned. The representatives of both organisations declare that they would regard such action as not merely improper but extremely foolish. The conference issued a communique stating .that it was agreed that a detailed discussion on tariffs was at present premature, but that preparatory work was possible. The conference also discussed plans for the interchange of information relating to costs of production.- The communique adds that, though'the work was entirely exploratory, the" greatest cordiality was manifested. The discussion showed that the field for co-operation was wider than had been anticipated.
