DROWNING ACCIDENT

FORDING WANGANUI RIVER VALUABLE HORSES LOST. Per Press Association. TAUMARUNUI, December 6. Thomas McKenna, a single man, aged 30 years, was drowned in the \V anganni river this morning. He was riding in a dray, pulled by three horses, and driven and owned by \\. W. Webster, across the river to view the metal deposits on the oppositeside, preparatory to working them to-morrow. The horses got into deep water, and were drowned. Webster and McKenna struck out for the shore. The former landed m an exhausted condition, but McKenna suddenly disappeared when he appeared to bo swimming strongly. The body has not yet been recovered. Webster values the horses at £IOO.
