EVANS BAY RACES SEASON'S FIRST EVENTS. There was a good fresh breeze blowing across Evans Bay on Saturday, when tho first events on the season’s racing programme were held, including races for keelers and centre-boarders. The launches did not start in tho event which was scheduled. The keelers sailed the new course up and down Evans Bay, commencing near the boathouse, around a mark off Bhag Point, up to the Red Light buoy, back to Shag Point, across again to tho Red Light, and back to the starting lino. Windward, who was on a handicap of USmin, sailed the course once and then retired. lolanthc (15min) and Viola (scr) oomrdeted tho c-ourse, however, and the finishing times were: Viola, shr Smin TOflec; lonlanthe. shr 21min fisec. The ''orrcctecl times reveal a win for Viola by over two minutes. There were bigger entries in tho 18ft and Tinder class race, the, course for these yachts being a triangular one in full view of those on tho bank. The corrected times for the competitors are outlined Tui (Smin', 4hr 2min 15sec; Illinois (finishing time), 4hr Smin 23scc; Kuna. (Smin), 4hr Train 3sec; Nautiless (4min), 4hr 2mm 30sec; Kewpie (smin) 4hr 4m7 n 46scc; Miro (smin), 4hr Crain Msec. Vixfin did not start.
