The summer meeting of the Wellington Trotting Club, to be held at the Hutt Park, Petone, on Wednesday and Saturday of next week, promises to be the most successful yet held by the club. With the exception o? the 2.51 mile and a quarter the fields for Wednesday will be the best, both in numbers and quality, yet carded in this centre. The New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup brings together a field of eleven prominent performers, including Tom Thumb, Holly Boy, Taurekareka, and Peter Bingen. The latter won in impressive fashion at h'orbuiy Park last week, and he and Tom Thumb will probably claim most public attention on the day. Brentloc on 12 yards and Taurekareka on 48 yards are a speedy pair that will certainly give trouble if the pace is not too hot in the early stages. The most interesting event of the day for Wellington patrons will bo the opportunity provided them of seeing the best horses in New Zealand measuring strides in the Electric Handicap of a mile and a quarter. In this race are to be found Prince Pointer, Onyx, Waitaki Girl, ' Logan Chief, Black Admiral, and Willie Logan. The pace is sure to ho a cracker, and the handicaps leave the final result very open. It must be gratifying to the club to find only one defection from the field in the High Class Trotters’ Handicap. Eleven of the best square-gait-ers jn the country will face the starti er, and the issue bears a most open | appearance. • The other trotters’ race, the Nai Nai Handicap, a 3.52 mile and a half, lias also filled splendidly, there being fourteen acceptors. Great interest will be manifested in the apeparance of the American bred Trampcrisp, about which many good tilings ale prophesied. Of the locally trained horses Black Palm is working well, and notched a win at. the recent Nelson meeting, but be will find the company more select at tho Hutt Park. The Novice: Handicap will bring a largo field to the starting tapes and the money will probably go to oiio or other of the Canterbury contingent, as the local representatives in this event are hardly up to the standard of the visitors. The mile saddle event has drawn another large acceptance, and the handieapper appears to have made it a very open race. Van Rich, although apparently well enough placed in this event, was not-accepted for, and will contest the Middle Class Handicap in preference. M. 1L Edwards's horses, Balmeny and Arran Chief, which looked to hold a mortgage on the Speedaway Handicap have gone slightly amiss, and are unahle to compete. * A notable defection is Dolly Dillon, and it looks as though her recent trip to Dunedin may have found her out. Prince Pointer has been asked to go 2.-16 in the Electric Handicap on Wednesday, while Great Bingen won at the Metropolitan meeting from a 2.41 mark. Speculation is rife a.s to how Mr Brinkman will place the two champ Tons in the Short Limit Stakes of a mile and a half to he decided on Saturday next. A special train servioe has been arranged for the first day’s trotting races on Wednesday.
