THE MINE DISASTER RESIDENTS HOMELESS FES OF ASHTON’S RECOVERY. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, December 3. Operations to cope with the Dobson Mine fire were suspended before 11 p.m., as it is feared that further explosions might take place unless the mine was left open overnight. Flooding from the rifer will bo undertaken in the morning. The 9 p.m. explosion did more surface damage than the previous ones. All the people in North Dobson letfe :heir homes, including the following .’amilies :—Fords, Thompsons, Carsens, Messrs Roberts and Eder, and Mesdames McLuskv, Temploy, ami Erskine. The explosion crossed the electric lines in front of the Wallsend Mine, causing a short circuit, but the town supply was not affected. There is not expected to be any more explosions to-night, as the mine is now open and explosive mixtures cannot be formed. Ashton’s condition is improving, and now it is hopeful that he will recover. laterTnformation ANOTHER VIOLENT EXPLOSION. There was a further violent explosion at Dobson mine at 9 p.m., and it was reflected in the town by the momentary extinction of the electric light. The power-houso is half a mile from the mine. It is evident that the cause was gas accumulation duo to the tire, but it is anticipated the effect of the explosion will be to extinguish the fire. INMATES~LEAVE HOMES The explosion damaged a number of houses in the vicinity of the Dobson mine, the inmates of which left them and came to spend the night in Greymouth. Quantities of stones were deposited upon one house. Ashton’s condition remains unchanged.
