JUMPED OVERBOARD
MENTAL DEFECTIVE ON STEAMER. Per Press Association. NAPIER, December 3. When about half a mile from the breakwater this morning, tho Wainui was stopped owing to a mentally affected Maori, who was beine escorted to Porirun, jumping overboard. His escort, a Gisborne policeman, jumped in after him. and held him up until a boat from the Wainui picked them both up. Both were given a change of clothes, and they were able to join the south-liound train.
