NOT A POLICE OFFICER
CUSTOMS DETECTIVE. Pei Press Association. DUNEDIN. December 3. To-day at the City Police Court, Edward McLolland was charged that lie assumed the designation of a police officer. The accused had sought admission from the gatekeeper at the Forbury course. He informed him he was a detective troni Wellington on holiday, amt was investigating a ease of theft from the Grand Hotel. The accused in evidence, said be was examining ollicor in tho Customs and a detective, and denied that he suggested ho was a police officer. The magistrate said the accused’s remark to the gatekeeper led to the assumption he was a police officer. Counsel said tho aroused bad been gavsed in France, and was in a bad state of health. The magistrate: It seems to me like a mental case. The accused was ordered to come in: for sentence nnv time within 12 months, and k to pnv costs.
