COVENT GARDEN'S IMMENSE TRADE
It is estimated that 750,000 to 1.000,000 tons of produce are dealt with annually by Covent Garden market. The value of the trade is put at £25,000.000 a year. Sir Arthur du Cros, chairman of the committee appointed by the Beecliam Estates to consider the problem of a new site, revealed these amazing figures recently, when he gave evidence before the Royal Commission on London's cross-river traffic. Since 1910, he added, the market’s business had increased hv 85 per cent.
