The Rev. J. Hobbs, vicar of Christ Church, Wanganui East, lias retired after 50 years’ service, 20 years of which he spent in Hastings. He was also stationed at End, Palmerston North, before being appointed to Wanganui East. Mr Hobbs intends to reside at Hastings. Authority was granted at last night’s meeting of the Wellington City Council for tho erection of an electrical substation in Messines street, Karori, to meet the requirements of the eastern portion of the suburb. With a view to improving the efficiency of the Wadestown tram service, it was agreed at last night's meeting of tho City Council that an additional loop should bo constructed in the tramline at Pitt street. Regal Gardens, off Queen’# drive, are to he taken over by Che council as a public street.
