NEW ZEALANDER DEFRAUDED HE EXPECTED A THOROUGHBRED STORY TOLD IN COURT By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received December 1, 10.40 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 1. In the Criminal Court Percy William Davidson was found guilty of obtainii s, £9O from Lionel Percy Ford, of Hikurangi, New Zealand, with intent to defraud. The prosecution alleged that Davidson contracted to sell Ford, for £BO, a thoroughbred three-year-old trotting filly, sired by the fastest pacer ever imported to Australia. Ford cabled the money and received in return a 22-year-old milk-cart horse, valued at 80s. Davidson stated from the dock that he advertised the filly for sale. He knew where he could buy her, but when he made the bargain with Ford be was unable to obtain her. and he purchased the other horse in a sale ring. The horse showed great speed when tried, and he shipped it to New Zealand. He then wrote to Ford stating that he would refund the money iIV Ford was not satisfied. Davidson was remanded for sentence. He admitted a conviction for forgery in New Zealand.
