HUTT POWER BOARD
RATEPAYERS’ FAITH IN DISTRICT The . faith of Upper Hutt residents in the future development of their district was reflected by the fact that the loan proposals submitted by the Hutt Valley Power Board, and involving the sum of £150,000, were carried at yesterday's poll to decide the issue by 551 votes to 217. The board, it might be mentioned, has already borrowed £264,000, which has been used to serve the community, but so rapid is the growth of tho district that the extra amount is required to provide consumers with an efficient electrical system. It is considered that the £150,000 will be sufficient to serve the district for three years, and the sanctioning of the loan will obviate the necessity of the board striking the rate that it is allowed to strike if the necessity arises. The figures announced by the chairman of the board, Mr A. J. McCurdy, are only those that have resulted from the preliminary count, but the position is not likely to be altered greatly by the official count, as the three*' fifths majority has been secured.
