COLD WEATHER
FIRST DAY OF SUMMER? Yesterday was supposed to be the first day of summer, but the casual observer might he forgiven for thinking that winter was still with us. Although the barometer has a rising tendency, the rain has had a tendency in the opposite direction, and cold showers, with snow on the higher levels were reported from many parts of the Dominion. A small secondary low pressure system located off the west coast of the South Island is largely responsible for the present unpleasant conditions; until that departs or is neutralised, the present spell of unseasonable weather is likely to continue.
