Mr H. Atmore, M.P., arrived from Nelson yesterday,, and will remain in Wellington until the end of the week. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr A. L. Hunt was appointed its representative on the District. Railway Advisory Board. The Minister for Health, Hon Mr Young, will travel to Hawke’s Bay on Saturday, and will open a new nurses’ heme at Waipukurau. A similar institution will be opened at Napier on the following day. The ex-New Zealand Rugby football representative, A. (“Son”) White, who was a member of the famous 1924 team, is transferring from Southland to Canterbury, having accepted a business appointment in Christchurch. Mr A. Seed, appointed to the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce as representative of the Federated Sawmillers’ Association, was welcomed at Tuesday’s meeting by the president (Mr J. R. Simpson). A Press Association message from Feilding reports the death of Mr W. G. Haybittle, an ex-Mayor of Feilding, an ex-president of the Jockey Club, an ex-chairman of the Rangitikei Sawmillers’ Association, and a prominent Freemason. He was the oldest resident in the Manchester block. The Hon. Edward Newman, C.M.G., M.L.C., has consented to he a candidate for the seat on the board of directors of the Wellington Meat Export Company, vacated by Mr J. W. Marshall.
