FAULTY CABLES

WEATHER AGAINST OPERATIQNS The cable steamer Iris, which has been chartered by the Government to pick up and repair three fanKy cables in Cook Strait, is Rot finding the weather conditions favourable to good progress with this class of work. The steamer arrived from Auckland last Saturday week, and after taking cable aboard went out into the Strait to commence operations. Heavy seas have prevented her from making much headway up to now, the weekend being particularly bad. Only one day’s work has been done, and the vessel is now waiting for a favourable change in the weather. -No cables have yet been repaired.
