BALANCE OF TRADE
IMPORTS, EXPORTS, CUSTOMS For the first six months of the fin aneial yenr, 1926-27, beginning March Ist, the Customs revenue of New Zealand is about £56,000 greater than tlio Customs revenue for the same six months of 1926-26. The excess of revenue for the first six months may be corrected by tho end of the third quarter, for the latest figures show that the middle month thereof (November) has been marked by falls of about £60,000 in Auckland and nearly £34,000 in Wellington, ns compared with November, 1925. But how far this November fall of Customs revenue is due to irregularity of shipping, and how far it is due to de‘cline of imports, ‘is not clear. December may or may not correct the Novombor fall. Passing from Customs revenue to imports „(the source of Customs revenue) it is found that for the first seven months (ended October) of this financial year, as compared with last, imports were less by £1,800.000, and exports increased by nearly £600,000. Comparing imports and exports with each other, it is found that for the first seven months of tho financial year there is on excess of imports, approximately 6J millions. But as the export season is just beginning, the remaining five months should have a big counterbalancing effect. The Customs revenue collected at Wellington and Auckland for November with that for Auckland of last year in parentheses, is: Wellington, revenue. £191,936 (£225,924); leer duty; £5570 (£502.5). Auckland, revenue. £193.300 (£244,411).
