SCHOOL WITHOUT TEACHERS

MINfSTER ASKS FOR EXPLANATION A complaint recently made to the Minister for Education regarding the absence at university examinations of the teacher at the Talmroa school, Morrinsville, resulting in considerable inconvenience to the pupils, has caused the Minister to ronuost an explanation of the position from the Auckland Education Beard. The hoard has replied as follows: “Under regulation 5, leave for teachers to attend examinations is compulsory. Two relieving teachers were appointed, but both declined. The school committee received due notification of this and that no other relieving teacher was available. In this distinct more than 100 schools are affected by the absenoe of teachers at examinations. The hoard regrets the position, which is unavoidable and recurring.”
