TIME’S MANY CHANGES

The office of King’s Remembrancer, which will shortly be vacated by Sir Thomas Chitty, is one which has changed with the passage of time. In its original form, the office was one held by an Exchequer clerk, whose duty it was to “remind” the judge ana keep certain records. The office of King’s Remembrancer end Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer were united in 1833. and the King’s Remembrancer is now also Chief Master of the Supreme Court. Ho has special duties oonnected with the nomination of sheriffs, the swearing-in of the Lord Mayor, the trial of the pyx, the receipt of homage in respect of Crown lands, and the recovery of debts and penalties due to tho Crown.
